Progress at the Mill
Babbitt Pour
Running the mill the after the 2019 Rally a small cast piece broke off the sliding frame that mounts the two shafts on the feed mechanism.
After silver soldering the small piece in place on the casting it was decided that the two horizontal shafts were noticeably misshapen from use and should be replaced. After the new shafts were in place, the old babbitt needed to be replaced. Babbitt is used in cases where a bearing is needed in a cast iron piece.
First Run...
Can't forget about dinner! Turkey cooked in the smoke box of the Clubs Frick Eclipse was delicious.
Mill Walls
After the abundance of Hemlock from the 2019 Rally was sawed, stickered and stacked to dry for a year we were able to use it on the South facing wall of the Mill. The lumber was planed and cut to size then boiled linseed oil applied to seal the lumber.
